"I want my art to speak for itself."
James McQueen (born 1977, United Kingdom) is a British contemporary artist working under a pseudonym, who has exhibited publicly since 2017. His practice is rooted in the Pop Art tradition - appropriating the iconic graphic language of vintage Penguin book covers, replacing their titles with satirical and culturally resonant phrases, and transforming inexpensive mass-produced objects into singular works of fine art in direct echo of Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup paintings. His technically demanding process involves building up and sanding back multiple layers of paint to recreate the worn surface of a well-read book, often finished with lacquer for depth and vibrancy. Solo exhibitions include shows at Halcyon Gallery, London (2022, 2023, 2026) and Castle Fine Art (2023, 2025). His paintings and limited-edition prints are actively collected and perform consistently well on the secondary market.
